Mumbai: The wife of slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Kavita Karkare has appealed that Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving Pakistani terrorist from the 26/11 attacks be now hanged publicly.
Kavita Karkare was speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN after Kasab's plea to the judge seeking capital punishment was known to all.
Surprisingly, on Wednesday Kasab said in court that he be punished for his crime and could as well be hanged.
This came only two days after he had made a dramatic confession in court and gave a chilling blow-by-blow account of his role in the horrendous Mumbai terror strikes. The terror strikes that left more than 170 people dead had stunned the world.
"When he confessed, I was so surprised and I thought that it was a political game. Somebody is guiding him or pressurising him, that is why he confessed. Today he said - hang me. I think he is trying to gain sympathy from the public and he wants some lenient punishment. We have to take strong action against Ajmal kasab and hang him publicly. He will never get any sympathy from Indians. That is true but he is trying to do something, play some game. I think Pakistan is pressurising him. While the trial is going on, it is very painful for all the martyrs' families so we should finish it immediately and we should give him capital punishment," said Kavita Karkare.
While many contend that Kasab may be buying time or acting as per orders to save others, the fact remains that there is a section of people who do not want the trial to drag on and on, endlessly.
