Hannah parents cheer court verdict

London: Parents of murdered British teenager Hannah Foster say they are relieved justice is finally being done in the case.

A Delhi court on Friday cleared the extradition of NRI Maninder Pal Singh Kohli to Britain in a case relating to Hannah’s rape and murder.

In an interview to CNN-IBN’s Sanjay Suri, the couple – that fought a relentless battle for justice – expresses relief and thanked the judiciary.

Given below are some excerpts:

CNN-IBN: How do you react to the extradition order?

Hillary Foster: As you can imagine it’s every parent’s nightmare and it was being made worse because we had to be so involved in trying to find this man (Kohli) in India.

Trevor Foster: For Hannah’s sake, we vowed we’d get justice. It had never happened before, no one had ever been extradited from India to UK and probably even vice versa. It is a new process and will take time to get into place. As long as people have learnt through this process, it’ll be better.

CNN-IBN: What do you have to say about the reward that was offered?

Hillary Foster: Initially, the reward was put out and for many months there was no reply whatsoever. My husband’s company set up and independent phone line in India and through videoconference we appealed to Indian people. And that week, within days, people were phoning in and he was arrested.

CNN-IBN: Have you had any contact with Kohli’s wife or children?

Hillary Foster: Not at all. There’s obviously no point and I feel very sorry for her.

Trevor and Hillary Foster had, in February, sought the Indian Prime Minister and the President's intervention to speed up the Kohli’s extradition.

Seventeen-year-old Hannah was allegedly abducted, raped and killed after a night-out with friends at Southampton in 2003.

A Southampton court issued an arrest warrant against Kohli in 2003 and faxed it to the Indian authorities.

In 2004, Kohli, a resident of Southampton and a father of two was arrested in West Bengal.
