Haryana: Another gangrape in Jind, teenaged Dalit girl sets herself on fire

Sacchakhera: In an another shocker from Haryana, a teenaged Dalit girl in Jind died after she set herself on fire on Saturday night after she was allegedly gangraped. Two men have been arrested while two others are still absconding.

She was rushed to the civil hospital in Jind district, and was later referred to PGIMS at Rohtak in serious condition. The girl breathed her last on Saturday evening in the Rohtak hospital. Reports said that the 16-year-old girl was forcibly taken to the house of one of the suspects where the crime occurred.

Earlier on Saturday, the victim in her statement to the police said that one of her neighbours Pradeep allegedly dragged her into his house while the sister-in-law of the accused kept guard standing on the terrace of the house so that nobody could come inside. Pradeep and another youth Naveen raped the teenager.

Another youth identified as Sanjeev also came to the room and bolted the door, but he did not rape the victim, according to her complaint. In a state of shock, the girl went to her house and sprinkled kerosene on herself.

This is the ninth rape case to come to light in Haryana in the past 28 days and a majority of these rapes took place in Jind district alone. Haryana government has formed a three-member committee to look into such incidents.

Rohtak CMO Kuldeep Singh said, "The girl had 95 to 100 per cent burns. As soon as she was admitted, all the doctors did their best to save her but she succumbed to her injuries." Victim's mother said, "The people who did this to my daughter should be punished."
