Chandigarh: A 40-year-old woman has alleged she was raped by Haryana Police Commandos in the high security zone adjoining the residences of the Punjab and Haryana Governors.
Police have arrested two accused - Dinesh and Rajinder - while one is on the run.
Says ASP, Chandigarh Police, Madhur Kumar, “We have arrested two people and registered an FIR against them.”
The victim, a catering service employee, was on her way back home from a party when she was raped.
Says catering company manager, RP Sharma, “The auto was stopped, the two people who were with her were beaten up and she was taken inside where the incident happened.”
The police have registered a case of rape and assault against the three commandos under sections 373 and 506 of the IPC.
Dinesh and Rajinder are in police custody and police say the third accused will be arrested soon.
But though a detailed statement of the victim has been recorded, the medical examination has proved inconclusive. More tests will be needed.
The incident raises questions on how an incident like this took place in a high security zone and how come none of the scores of guards staying in the complex protested.
