Karnal: Massive protests have erupted in a village in Karnal district of Haryana over the mysterious death of a former sarpanch. Family members of former sarpanch Karam Singh allege that he was killed for demanding back money paid to two Haryana ministers to secure jobs for three people inluding his son in the transport department.
The family members allege the Singh had paid Rs 12 lakh to Haryana Transport and Tourism Minister Om Parkash Jain and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Zile Ram Sharma. But the jobs did not materialise and Singh asked for the money to be returned. Singh's family alleges that Haryana Transport Minister OP Jain and local MLA Zile Ram were behind the death of Singh.
The body of Singh was found lying in a pool of blood near the NDRI, Karnal, police sources said.
Police have registered a case against five unknown persons on the complaint of the victim's kin, Karnal DSP Sunder Boraya said.
The victim's kin Anil Kumar told reporters in Karnal that they had prepared a written complaint against the Karnal legislator and Jain and forwarded it to the Chief Minister, Karnal Deputy Commissioner and SP, Karnal.
While the Congress legislator was not reachable, Jain rubbished the allegations saying they were "baseless".
"I don't even remotely know the man who is said to have been murdered. The charges being levelled against me are baseless," he said.
"I cant even kill an ant, what to talk of killing a human being. If any of these allegations claiming my involvement in the case are found to be true, then I am ready to face any punishment and people should hang me for that," Jain said.
