Haryana: In another instance of bizarre khap justice, the Jind panchayat has struck a compromise in a woman's murder case and has directed the families of the accused to offer penance by kneeling and paying obeisance to the victim at the spot where she was killed. The woman died in a gunfire in October 2012.
The panchayat has also ordered the families of the accused to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh each to the victim's family members. Families of both the victim and the accused have claimed they are satisfied with the panchayat's decision.
"I am satisfied with this directive of the panchayat. The accused have been fined Rs 2 lakh each and they have been punished in this manner by the panchayat. They have also decided to construct a hall and I am satisfied with these decisions of the panchayat," said Dashrath, husband of the victim.
Khap panchayats have been coming under attack for their strange way of justice, including delivering verdicts on marriages, gotra issues, society and culture.
