Haryana minister Sukhbir Kataria faces heat on alleged bogus voting

Gurgaon: A Gurgaon court on Tuesday noted that there was a prima facie case against Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sukhbir Kataria for his suspected role in a case of alleged bogus voting in 2009, said a representative of a petitioner NGO.

The minister is facing nine cases of irregular voting in assembly elections.

Judicial Magistrate Sunil Kumar said the minister, an independent legislator from Gurgaon, and four others could be tried for offences under penal provisions for cheating, forgery and conspiracy, said OP Kataria, president of city-based NGO Matdata Jaagrookta Manch.

The minister is facing nine cases of irregular voting in assembly elections.

The court asked the accused to appear on the next hearing May 29, 2013 and present their replies on the allegations.

The petition filed Nov 23, 2012 alleged that the minister used forged documents to obtain multiple voter cards from different booths in Gurgaon constituency.

The other four accused in the case are Rajender Singh, Ravinder Singh, Krishan Kumar and Anjali Devi.

In another similar case, the minister was granted anticipatory bail last week. On Friday, he was given regular bail by Judicial Magistrate Ashok Mann on a personal bond of Rs.50,000.
