New Delhi: Sonakshi Sinha has entered the club of lucky Bollywood heroines with the huge success of 'Rowdy Rathore'. Like Kareena Kapoor, she also looks all set to feature in more than one film of Rs 100 crore movie club. Her association with Akshay Kumar in 'Rowdy Rathore' has been received with great enthusiasm at the ticket window. Sonakshi Sinha has tried her best to live up to the expectations in the film, but her role was kept confined to songs, dances and some romantic scenes. This situation poses a question on the utility of heroines in films with alpha male hero.
For example, take films such as 'Singham', 'Bodyguard', 'Dabangg', or 'RA.One', there were hardly any scenes for heroines to excel just on the basis of their acting prowess. Be it Kajal Aggarwal in 'Singham' or be it Kareena Kapoor in 'Bodyguard', actresses were presented as mere eye candies.
Sonakshi's character sketch in 'Rowdy Rathore' is almost on the lines of her 'Dabangg' character. She also hasn't tried to showcase her talent. It appears she is happy and contented as far as her films are minting money at the box office.
Sonakshi\'s association with Akshay Kumar in \'Rowdy Rathore\' has been received with enthusiasm at the ticket window.
Apart from '3 Idiots', every film of the Rs 100 crore movie club features superhero like males. 'Rowdy Rathore' is no exception. The film clearly relies on the shoulders of Akshay Kumar who kills at least five hundred people in the entire film. Akshay Kumar coupled with songs completes more than three quarters of the film. Rest one quarter has been divided among villains, Sonakshi and the establishment of basic premises. This compels the audience to think whether it would make any difference if any other actress replaces Sonakshi Sinha in the film.
Her next release is 'Joker', again with Akshay Kumar. After that, she will be seen in 'Son of Sardar' with Ajay Devgn. 'Dabangg 2' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2' are also expected to hit the screens in the coming months. She is working with A-list actors in these films, who have separate and well preserved fan bases. Normally, the directors don't like to play with the established image of the big actors, so, Sonakshi is likely to continue her usual earthy style.
Working with grade one actors since the beginning of career is not an easy feat to achieve, and Sonakshi should feel lucky about it, but at the same time this can restrict her development as an actor. The tendency of playing safe may harm Sonakshi in the longer duration if she wants to carve a distinct identity for herself. Sonakshi should seek an inspiration from Vidya Balan who has emerged as a powerful actor despite the odds in a hero dominated industry.
