Hyderabad: As TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao emerged from the hospital on Thursday there were no celebrations. It was perhaps a reminder that the Telangana victory they claimed to have scored has now turned into a confrontation.
After 11 days of a much-publicised fast by KCR there is confusion. Not over what happens to Telangana but over whether the fast has helped resurrect KCR's political career which took a severe beating when the party won only two Lok Sabha seats in the 2009 elections. A disaster for the man who broke away from Chandrababu Naidu's TDP in 2001 and made a separate Telangana his political USP.
The TRS feels it's a win-win situation for KCR. After a poor performance in the polls, he has now emerged as a hero who made the UPA Government relent. The party is now maintaining a studied media silence, perhaps waiting for the clouds of confrontation to pass.
Infact the TRS itself was hoping for a face-saver. The protests had been taken over by the students and were going beyond the party and KCR needed to prove that he will not relent till the Centre gave in.
"We will not talk to media for two or three days. We have definitely won the Telangana battle,” Member of the TRS legislative party E Rajendar said.
Now that the Congress has promised a resolution, the TRS would like to wait and watch. If the resolution is placed in the Assembly then they are heroes and if that doesn't happen then they will make the Congress the villain in the Telangana script.
