Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's supporters on Wednesday attacked media vans in Adilabad after Owaisi was arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody. Owaisi was arrested on Tuesday after nearly a month of making the hate speech. New charges were slapped on his for criminal conspiracy and intent to incite violence. Meanwhile, his petition against his arrest will be coming up in the high court later in the day.
Prohibitory orders are in place in Adilabad in view of the arrest and Owaisi's lawyer said that they have asked for special facilities for the MLA who is said to be suffering from ill health. The MIM also alleged that there is a threat to his life.
Two FIRs were registered suo motu at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts while a third case was registered by Osmania University police, following a court directive after Owaisi allegedly used inflammatory language against a particular community in December 2012.
Owaisi has been booked under Sec 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and Sec 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of IPC. The MIM legislator has also been booked under Sec 121 (waging or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India) of IPC.
