Click to play videoNew Delhi: After days of uncertainty, the smiles are back. Dr Rahul Lohan, a 2006 batch doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, will finally get an MBBS certificate that will give him a chance to go abroad for further studies.
"I am very happy,” said Lohan.
The Delhi High Court has asked Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, to sign certificates of 49 doctors in the next 24 hours.
"A special messenger will carry these degrees to the Health Minister who we are told is in Chennai. He will sign it and then by tomorrow evening, the students will have their degree,” said Delhi High Court lawyer, Sudhir Walia.
The court has also made it clear that Ramadoss will have to sign certificates if any other student wants the degree before the convocation scheduled for September-end.
The doctors had approached the court saying the future of 700 doctors was at stake after the Health Minister refused to sign degrees calling them illegal, because they carried the signature of the registrar appointed by AIIMS director Dr Venugopal.
"It was just a ego clash between the minister and the director. It’s the minister who is responsible for this mess. Thankfully this is the end of it,” said President, Resident Doctors Association, Dr Kumar Harsh.
With the HC order, at least 49 students can breathe easy. But now the focus shifts to the GBM of AIIMS scheduled for September 5 and then the convocation on September 25, which will finally tell us if the President and Director continue to hold the institute to ransom or if the larger interest of AIIMS survives.
