HC probes lawyer-court nexus

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked police to probe all cases where there is possible nexus between lawyers and court staff.

Justice R S Sodhi of the Delhi High Court on Thursday demanded investigations to find out if there was any "network" existing to destroy the criminal justice system.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has submitted a report in the High Court on the alleged nexus between the lawyers and court officers in the Jessica Lall murder case.

This after the High Court told Delhi Police that all the cases should be probed which show the possibility of a nexus.

Heading a division bench, Sodhi, who received an anonymous letter alleging such a nexus, also told the Delhi Police that if the investigation was not properly done, it could be handed over to another organisation “above you.”

“We see further investigations is necessary to bring out any possible wider network to destroy the criminal justice delivery system by other supporting organs. The state is directed to investigate and all the agencies will cooperate with it,” the Bench said.

Justice Sodhi had on April 23 received an anonymous letter claiming that there were three cases similar to Jessica Lall's case waiting for justice.

Justice Sodhi said from the anonymous letter it appeared that the informer knew of both the cases similar to Jessica Lall in which the status report filed by Delhi Police indicated that firearms were used.

Court sources told PTI on Monday that the one-page typed letter sent to the Judge listed three murder cases "very similar" to the Jessica case in which the investigating authority and the forensic expert followed the same procedure of probe which resulted in acquittal of the accused by the trial courts.

In all the four cases, including that of Jessica, the murder was committed with a licensed gun and the same forensic expert's opinion was sought.
