New Delhi: The Orissa High Court has dismissed a petition filed against the coach of child marathon runner Budhia, Biranchi Das.
The court dismissed an arrest warrant issued against Das, who was accused of forcing Budhia to run marathons. Das had filed plea against the arrest warrant in the High Court in Cuttack.
The state Woman and Child Welfare Department had filed a case against him, saying he was exploiting Budhia's talent for personal gains.
Four-year-old Budhia had run 63 kilometres from Puri to Bhubaneswar in May 2006 and had collapsed in the end. He was later examined by doctors who recommended that he not be allowed to run again.
The state government had then banned Budhia from running long distances. Many Budhia supporters had protested against the ban, saying Budhia, who lived in a slum, had been given a new lease of life by coach Biranchi Das.
