New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday allowed the schools to interact with parents prior to admission of their children in the nursery class. However, court specified that there would be 'no interviews'.
The court also asked schools to follow the point system mentioned in the Ashok Ganguly Committe's report for this academic year.
Friday was the last day for schools in Delhi to suggest an alternative model to Ganguly committee recommendations on nursery admissions, to the high court. Earlier, the court had ordered schools not to grill parents and children before nursery admissions.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Hema Kohli allowed the schools to interact with parents to the extent that they can verify the details provided at the time of admission.
The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the schools to stop parent's interview at the time of admission of their children in nursery class.
Counsel for the petitioner, Ashok Aggarwal, said, "The parents will safeguard their interests themselves and in case of difficulty, they will approach the courts."
"The court has cleared all doubts pertaining to the Ashok Ganguly Committee. There will be no interviews of the kids, there will be greater transparency and the management's discretion in the matter of admission will be minimised," he added.
