HC to decide which agency will probe Ishrat case

CNN-IBN

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court is likely to come to a decision on Thursday on which agency must continue to investigate the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

At present, the SIT, the CBI and the NIA are investigating the case. The victim's family favours an SIT probe. An FIR may also be filed in the case.

Meanwhile, IPS officer GL Singhal, prime suspect in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, has been issued a "serious warning" by a court hearing the Naroda Patiya riot case after he failed to appear before it despite summons.

Singhal, currently Kheda Superintendent of Police, was investigation officer of the Naroda Patiya case for two years, when he was serving as DySP with the city crime branch after the riots in 2002.
