HCL to sell, service Apple's iPod

New Delhi: If you want to buy an iPod then don't rush to the grey market. Just look out for the nearest HCL Infosystems outlet. Over 1,000 HCL retail outlets across the country will be selling Apple's revolutionary product iPod.

The iPod will come bundled with free content, service back up, and a warranty against theft and damage. The company thinks that should be reason enough for more people to tune into an iPod. Currently only about one lakh people own portable MP3 players like the iPod.

Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems, Ajai Chowdhry says, “There are 1000 movies that get released every year with 6 to 8 songs and we as a nation love our music. So I just think we need to put in place right distribution channels and great sales will then follow."

So look forward to HCL's digital lifestyle stores. Where you will get the whole range of consumer electronic products. Be it HCL desktop and laptops, Nokia Mobile phones, Digital Cameras and iPods.

CNN-IBN learns that the company is in talks for distributing more such digital lifestyle products.

"We will set up digital lifestyle stores. We may even own them where we will sell the whole range of consumer electronic products," says Ajai.

HCl Infosystems got a big setback ever since the company partially lost its Nokia distribution business, but its now hoping that the iPod tie-up will 'shuffle' its fortunes in the right direction.
