Pune: Seven-year-old Piyush Kolur had thought that he had won the battle when in 2004, the young boy was cured of acute lympoblast leukemia, a type of blood cancer, with the help of chemotherapy.

But during a routine blood test in December 2006, came the shocking news.

“In routine check up we got the shocking news that it has relapsed, there was no particular reason for it. It was perhaps because the cancer cells were stronger than the chemotherapy. Maybe they got suppressed and surfaced again,” said Piyush’s father, Maltesh Kolur.

For Piyush, the battle for his life is more difficult now. His parents say the process of 'Matched unrelated donors bone marrow transplant' is the only treatment possible now.

The treatment costs over Rs 1.2 crore, an amount Maltesh knows will not be easy to gather.

“In Paris, there is a hospital called Robert Debre where we are planning to take him. In idealistic conditions it will take him four months to get the transplantation and come back the normal way,” said Maltesh.

Maltesh has visited many people and organisations for monetary support but without much success.
