Ministers chilling out on foreign holidays

New Delhi: The Met's calling this April the hottest in the last decade and for the aam-aadmi (common man) heading out to work is an everyday struggle. But if you're a Cabinet minister, weather shouldn't bother you. You can hop onto the next plane and chill out on a foreign holiday.

The age of austerity is officially over and it's now travel time for our ministers. With mercury rising back home, one third of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Cabinet have chosen to be on official tours. All chasing business prospects or furthering India's interests in the Western World.

Who spent how much:

Moscow ended up being the summer destination for Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar for three days from March 25 with an approximate ticket cost of Rs 120000.

Home Minister P Chidambaram spent three days in London discussing anti-terrorism security measures from March 20. Ticket cost: Rs 150000.

External Affairs Minsiter S M Krishna was in China for four days from April 5. Approx ticket: Rs 60000.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal went to Australia and Singapore for 11 days. Ticket cost: Rs 160000.

Kamalnath spent four days in New York with the US investors from April 4. Ticket price: 140000.

Commerce Minister Anand Sharma took a three day trip to Washington and Helsinki later Ticket cost: Rs 255000.

Murli Deora was in Mexico March Approximate cost: Rs 275000.

Kumari Selja, travelled to South Africa and Tehran in February end and then to Mexico and Peru in March end. Ticket cost: Over Rs 200000.

M K Alagiri took an 11 day trip to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand in March third week. Ticket cost: Rs 165000.
