Heavy floods hit Gujarat and Maharashtra

New Delhi: There have been floods in most parts of the country. In Nashik district of Maharashtra, continuous rains over the past few days have led to rise in the water levels of the Godavari River.

Food gates of two dams, Darna and Gangapur have been opeed . Around 39000 cusecs of water have been released and 120 surrounding villages have been affected by this.

Thousands have been stranded in the rising waters 4000 families have been shifted to safer areas Alert has been sounded in Aurangabad Nanded and Paithan. The road to Aurangabad has been closed to traffic

In Gujarat, people in at least 20 villages are stranded for the fourth day running.The region has received more heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Four deaths have been reported so far. The army has been called in and over 3,000 people have been moved to safer places.

Sundernagar district is the worst hit. The Surendranagar-Ahmedabad highway had to be closed on Thursday. Other flood hit areas include Bhavnagar, Junagarh, Amreli and some parts of Ahmedabad.
