Kolkata: Heavy rainfall for the last 24 hours has brought Kolkata to a standstill. Water logging surmounted with traffic jam has increased the public woes.
Commuting to office and going to schools, was a pain for most people all through Monday morning.
Local trains were delayed for hours on end, leaving passengers stranded. And fallen trees blocked roads, causing disruptions to traffic.
"We have issued a heavy rainfall warning in all the districts,” says
Director, MET Department, Alipur, G C Debnath.
The streets of Kolkata once more has turned to Venice due to the deep depression over the Gangetic area of West Bengal.
With waterlogging in almost all streets it was really painful for the office and school goers, and public life completely disrupted.
The problem increased with the trees falling and blocking the roads causing heavy traffic jams slowing the traffic speed.
The local trains were delayed for hours due to water logging on the railway tracks of Howrah causing problem to daily passengers.
In the last 24 hours Kolkata has witnessed 160mm of rainfall. The metrological department has given warning for another 36 hours where heavy to very heavy rainfall is a probability.
