Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall disrupted life across Andhra Pradesh on Monday. One person was killed when a state-owned bus carrying a marriage group was trapped in a whirlpool at Nellore in Naidupeta.
Flood waters from the Sambaleru Canal have overflown on to the railway track near Gudur. Some long-distance trains from the South are running late by more than two hours.
Road traffic between Nellore and Chennai has also been affected. The Cyclone Warning Centre has said the storm is likely to intensify further. Fishermen have been advised not to venture out to the sea off the South Andhra Pradesh coast.
The rain has resulted from a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal, which has weakened and now lies as a well-marked low pressure area over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, north coastal Tamil Nadu and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Under its influence, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema have been experiencing widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy rainfalls.
Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfalls have also occurred over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
