Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed heavy showers through Tuesday night and several low lying areas like Worli, Sion, Dadar, Hindmata and Parel remained waterlogged for a while.
Sources say that due to poor visibility, runway operations at Mumbai airport which was stopped by the air traffic controller resumed around 1015 hrs IST.
Flight schedules had been affected as the visibility was reduced to just 200 meters. But later on the visibility improved to 800 meters and flights were resumed.
But there were no major traffic jams, as the rains started late in the night when vehicle movement was low.
Traffic police, however, diverted vehicles from some of the waterlogged routes.
The Met Department says Mumbai could experience more heavy showers in the days to come.
The city may also witness gusty winds and thunderstorms in the next 48 hours, Met officials said.
However, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed 30 per cent water cut across the metropolis citing depleting water levels in the lakes supplying water to the city.
Meanwhile, worries of Met Department seem to be centred around North India, where the rains are still playing hide and seek.
In Northwest India, rain and thundershowers are expected over parts of Uttar Pradesh. There is also a possibility of rain in other parts of the region.
In Western India, too, rain and thundershowers are expected over most parts of Konkan and Goa. Thundershowers also expected at many places over Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Marathwada and the intensity of monsoon is expected to increase over the next 48 hours.
