Hemline Index: Skirts reveal stock mkt story

Mumbai: The often derided hemline theory of economics which says that the length of women's skirts indicate which way the market heads may just end up being put to test in these difficult times.

Designer Narendra Kumar says, "When the markets are down you need a little excitement."

Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil add, "If the markets go down you should be wearing a bikini my dear."

And says designer Sabyasachi, "Luxury spending increases, because money attracts money."

And at the fashion week, worrying about your money is so last season.

"I don't believe in all this. Once a fashionista, always a fashionista," says a model.

Adds designer Tarun Tahiliani, "The only way out is to go shopping or the recession will go into depression."

And Sabyasachi has the last word, "If you are losing money, wear a little black dress."

Sadly, as always, in hard times, for some frugal fashionistas, style begins at home - remember Scarlett O' Hara in her green curtain dress?
