Kolkata: The Alipore constituency in South Kolkata is witnessing an interesting contest in the current round of elections.
Two top Tollywood stars, Tapas Pal and Biplab Chatterjee, have fought many a battle in studios of Tollywood. But now as candidates of the Trinamool and CPI-M, they are fighting a different battle altogether.
Both past their prime as actors, they have decided to lock horns on the political turf. Chatterjee is the CPI-M candidate there pitted against sitting Trinamool MLA Tapas Pal, who is confident of another resounding victory.
"Aapni jodi bolen villain tobe tai. Hero shob shomoy jete. Aar ami ebareo jeetbo, (If you call me a villain, then so be it. A hero wins at the end. And I will also win)," says Pal, the Trinamool Candidate.
And in true filmy style, the two actors are locked in a war of words as well.
"He is always lying to people. The other day when I fell ill, he said I was acting," alleges Chatterjee, the CPI-M candidate.
The two actors are friends off-screen. And despite these little dust-ups that they are getting into as election candidates, they hope to patch up after the polls.
Though Biplab Chatterjee appears to be the underdog, but in this hero-versus-villain duel, he's hopeful of finally getting his back on Tapas Pal for the reel bashing he's had to put up with in studios of Tollygunge.
