New Delhi: Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Nirmal Yadav, in the dock for alleged cash-at-door scam, has been given a clean chit by the Attorney General of India.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that Attorney General Goolam E Vahanvati told the Law Ministry that due to insufficient evidence against Justice Nirmal, the ministry's proposal to prosecute her will have to be shelved.
The government and Law Ministry were keen to prosecute Justice Nirmal.
In August 2008, Rs 15 lakh was allegedly delivered at the residence of Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Nirmaljit Kaur but later on it was revealed that the money was actually meant for Justice Nirmal.
Justice Nirmal has been on leave since August 2008.
Sources have also told CNN-IBN that the Law Ministry is planning to transfer Justice Nirmal out of Punjab and Haryana High Court
Law Minister Veerappa Moily had indicated in an earlier interview to CNN-IBN that he was in favour of having the Chief Justice of India looking into the Justice Nirmal Yadav case.
"It is a question which I need to discuss with the judiciary and CJI. There's already a national debate on that. I think it's a matter which could be sorted out," Moily had said.
