Hit-and-run driver jumps bail, on the run

New Delhi: The main accused in the Kanyakumari hit-and-run case has jumped bail and is on the run again. The Madras High Court has cancelled Senthil Kumar’s bail order and ordered his arrest.

Senthil had got bail on the condition that he would visit the local police station every day.

Senthil had surrendered on Wednesday after being on the run for a month after being seen on a video running over two highway engineers who were overlooking the demolition of an illegal temple construction.

Senthil, the son of the temple priest escaped soon after. The two engineers sustained injuries but survived the incident.

Anthony Xavier, one of the engineers, said he felt cheated. Xavier, who has now recovered and is back on duty is angry when he hears that man who tried to kill him, has not spent a single day in police custody.

“We don’t have any security. I only did what the court wanted me to. Now the accused is roaming free,” he says.
