Kanyakumari: A month after a hit-and-run episode was caught on camera – Senthil Kumar, the man who ran over two engineers in Kanyakumari on February 6 – surrendered in court on Wednesday.
Senthil Kumar, however, got bail on the condition that he would visit the local police station every day. The police say he will be charged with attempt to murder.
“We will chargesheet him shortly, we have decided to take him into custody,” said Kanyakumari SP, Santosh Kumar.
But Anthony Xavier, one of the engineers who escaped the bid on life with serious injuries, feels cheated. Xavier, who has now recovered and is back on duty is angry when he hears that man who tried to kill him, has not spent a single day in police custody.
“We don’t have any security. I only did what the court wanted me to. Now the accused is roaming free,” he says.
Senthil's father, who is the temple priest, and mother, both accused in the case, are also out on bail. Another suspect in the case, Russel Raj, a lawyer and Senthil's brother-in-law, is yet to be arrested.
With the police on his heels, Senthil had no option but to surrender before the court, but for Anthony Xavier the fight for justice will continue as long as this man is free.
