New Delhi: Eight-year-old Faizan is back in the hospital. But this time with little hope of going back home.

"Blood transfusion is necessary in his case. If not then anything can happen,” says Director, RIMS Ranchi, Dr Jagannath Prasad.

Faizan is HIV-positive and it’s alleged that the country's premier hospital, Safdarjung is responsible for his present state.

Resident of a small village in Jahrkhand, Faizan who was anaemic was referred to Safdarjung for treatment. His parents allege that the blood that was given to Faizan by the hospital was infected.

"When the blood test was done first time in Safdarjung the reports were normal. The test that were done after giving him the fourth unit of blood showed him HIV-positive,” says Faizan's Father, Naseem Ahmed.

Nassem approached the High Court alleging medical negligence, which held the hospital authorities responsible and asked the government and the hospital to pay for his treatment.

"Safdarjung admitted him but started ignoring him by not giving any treatment. Eventually after two-three days the family was told to take the boy home as nothing more could be done,” says Naseem’s lawyer, Sughriva Dubey.

The Ranchi hospital initially gave Faizan medicines but subsequently retracted citing that the High Court order made it binding on Safdarjung and the government to pay for the boy's treatment and that they cant be held responsible.

However, Faizan's parents have approached the High Court again with a compensation demand of Rs 30 lakh. The court is furious and has asked Safdarjung and the government to answer.
