New Delhi: HIV-positive people are 10 times more prone to excessive dandruff and it could be treated as an early sign of the disease, a British expert said here on Tuesday.
Founder of the London Trichology Society, Barry Stevens said that the Seborrhoeic Dermatitis (a severe form of dandruff) is common among AIDS patients.
"Seborrhoeic Dermatitis among HIV-positive people is as high as 30 percent as against three percent among general population," he said.
"Though a lot of people with the problem don't have HIV, yet it could be one of the earlier indications," he added.
Stevens, a pioneer of single follicular hair transplant, was in India to train some of the specialists at Dr Batra's Positive Health Clinics across the country.
Referring to a Harvard Medical School study, he said hair loss particularly in the crown indicates a three-fold greater risk of heart diseases among men.
