New Delhi: Hindustan Motors has indefinitely suspended work at its factory in Uttarpara in West Bengal.
A notice to this effect put up at the factory premises on Wednesday morning.
The move follows a clash between the labour unions and the police on Tuesday, when the unions prevented the management from taking out finished products.
The management had earlier issued letters to the registered trade unions inviting them to a meeting on April 8 to sort out disputes.
But the meeting, scheduled to be held on April 8, was called off after the company management sought a written commitment from the union that they would restore normalcy ahead of the meeting.
Hindustan Motors has been facing labour unrest for more than a month.
Workers affiliated to the INTUC and non-CITU trade unions have been agitating since March 11 over issues like payment of salaries, reinstatement of suspended workers and dearness allowance which had led to disruption in production in the factory.
The company said continued agitation by the unions since March 11 was affecting the production at the Uttarpara plant, which manufacturers the Ambassador car.
