New Delhi: US President Barack Obama has been talking tough with Pakistan and has asked Islamabad to act against the sanctuaries of terror based on its soil.
Obama's message was delivered privately to the Pakistani leadership by the visiting US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke.
"There is no doubt that in the FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) region of Pakistan, in the mountainous regions along the border of Afghanistan, that there are safe havens where terrorists are operating. It is not acceptable four Pakistan or the US that folks with impunity kill innocent men and children," Obama said.
The message was underlined by the visit of the US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan
"Any futuristic strategy which is effective in Afghanistan cannot be done in isolation. Pakistan has to be on board," claimed Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi,
Neither the Mumbai attacks nor Kashmir figured in the talks with Holbrook, said Qureshi.
"As far as Holbrooke's mandate is concerned let's be very clear that his mandate is Afghanistan-Pakistan," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, India has once again insisted that Pakistan must focus on replying to its terror dossier on 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes.
"If they need some more information they should ask from us directly and then we will be able to deal with it otherwise it will be very difficult for us," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said.
Holbrooke now heads to Afghanistan before he comes to India.
The visit will be crucial as US plans a bigger role for India to tackle its Afghanistan problem.
