Blind School students celebrate Holi

Hyderabad: Devnar School for Blind in Hyderabad makes sure that its students don't miss out on the colour and fun of Holi. The students were all set to fill their pichkaris and splash some colour on Holi.

The17-year-old institution is home to almost 300 visually impaired students. But come Holi, regardless of age or ailments, they ensure to make the very best out of it.

"Two days before Holi, these kids start asking when are we getting colours for them and which ones they want, there is a lot of excitement for Holi," said Founder and chairman, Devnar Foundation for the Blind, Sai Baba.

It is not just the children who are having fun - the staff joins in too. Ruth and Hannah for instance, are both 19-year-old volunteers from the UK who have been teaching in the school for last six months and their first Holi is special for more than one reason.

"It's so much fun, it's a memorable Holi as we played with all of them. There was so much energy with all the colour, powder and water," Ruth.

Since most of the students come with very little or no family support at all, the school authorities make sure the students enjoy all festivals.

Even though these children may not really be able to see the visual finery of this festival, the excitement it brings to grab every moment of life and live it to the fullest, gives this festival the colours it deserves.

These kids may not be able to see the richness of the colours they play with, but the spirit of the festival is certainly felt here like no other place.
