New Delhi: New laws, better intelligence and faster decisions will be needed in India's fight against terror.

The Home Minister admitted in the Parliament that the Government has a strong strategy to fighting terror but needs better implementation. Public outrage seems to be working in the fight against the menace.

A candid admission in Parliament from P Chidambaram that all's not well with the intelligence gathering mechanism in the country was some balm for frayed nerves of countrymen.

"Intelligence regarding a suspected LeT vessel attempting to infiltrate through the sea route was shared with the DG Coast Guard and Principal Director Naval Intelligence," said the Home Minister.

And shockingly, the two major organisations responsible for the safety of the nation had failed to act upon the inputs.

Clearly, without credible follow up information, the lead was not followed. Later, replying to the debate, Chidambaram admitted government has been indecisive.

"There have been lapses, lapses of two kinds. One, systemic mistakes and second, because of indecision," said the Home Minister.

The Mumbai attacks also exposed the lack of technological apparatus available with our investigative agencies. Now the Prime Minister himself is admitting that war on terror cannot be fought without help from technology providers themselves and that the industry should be prepared for regulations.

"We must find a creative process of interaction between our security agencies and the producers and all the actors in the telecom industries," Manmohan Singh said.
