Mumbai: Auto major Honda launched its new car 'Honda Civic' on Tuesday offering a starting price of Rs 10.75 lakh for manual transmission variant and Rs 11.45 lakh for automatic transmission cersion.
Civic, sporting a 1.8 litre petrol engine, was launched by Honda President and CEO Takeo Fukui.
"With the launch of the latest generation 'Civic' in India, we are reinforcing our commitment to the market," Fukui said.
The car to be manufactured at the Honda Greater Noida facility will have 68 per cent localisation which will be scaled up to 80 per cent within the next two years, the company said.
The new Civic, priced in the Rs 10-11 lakh bracket, is targeted at prospective D-segment customers and could well be on the lines of Toyota Corolla and the Skoda Octavia.
The interior of the Civic is designed to be a stylish and safe personal space.
Like the City, the Civic too follows Honda’s new ‘one-motion’ principle (read cab-forward, minimal front and rear overhangs) and has a sporty stance.
The headlamps slant up to either side of the grille and the rear has a cut-off tail, with the rear combination lights arranged in a ring-shaped pattern.
Power for the Civic will come from an 1800cc i-VTEC motor that puts out a healthy 140bhp, but keeping our fuel in mind, we expect the output to be around the 130bhp mark.
The two-tier instrument panel keeps info like speed, temperature and fuel easy to see, says the company.
If the exteriors look interesting, Honda has really upped the game inside the car, whose long wheelbase holds a promise of roominess. Behind the three-spoke, small diameter steering wheel is a very futuristic, multifunctional display with an electro-luminescent tachometer.
The snazzy display also packs in a digital speedo and temperature and fuel gauges (see image). According to Honda, the Civic has split rear seats and the trunk capacity is a commodious 438 litres.
