White honeymoons begin in J&K

    Gulmarg, Kashmir: Kashmir's snow capital is doing brisk business this season selling 'snow' to honeymooners!. Well, that is exactly what Jammu and Kashmir Tourism is doing with hefty discounts to cash in on the wedding season.

    Meet Vikas and Monisha, a newly-married couple from Hyderabad. They are having the time of their lives over a huge white blanket of snow in Gulmarg. Vikas and Monisha had come to Kashmir with their fingers crossed about the possibility of snowfall. Now, their dream has come true.

    "We are enjoying the snowfall. We are lucky to get to see it. I was waiting for it since childhood," Vikas beams.

    "I am blessed to be here," adds Monisha. "I am thrilled and enjoying the snowfall. It was my childhood dream that I should be in Kashmir and, wow, what a time!"

    Like every year, honeymooners are taking a jaunt towards Kashmir this year too even as the mercury dips. Kashmir's tourism industry in anticipating in excess of 40,000 couples this year. Naturally, winter in Gulmarg will be a packed affair this year too. And the Tourism Department is all charged up to cash in on the opportunity.

    "Reports said thousands of marriages are taking place in Delhi and other states. So, we have extended heavy discount offers for the tourists on travel as well as lodging. We have other interesting packages too," Shamim Ahmad, DGM of J&K Tourism Department, says.

    Whether these packages are known to the hasty honey-mooners or not, they continue to pour into Kashmir. And the winter bug is rubbing equally on al, young as well as old.
