Hooch deaths: Youth Congress blames Minister

SONEPUR: Protesting the two hooch deaths in Naktamunda village under Dungripali block, the District Youth Congress has demanded the resignation of Excise Minister AU Singhdeo and Sonepur MLA and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Niranjan Pujari on moral grounds.

 A team of the Youth Congress met the bereaved family in Naktamunda on Friday. Reminding the Government of the liquor tragedy that struck Agalpur in Balangir, the Youth Congress said the incidents have established that trading of spurious liquor has been going on in the district of the Excise Minister.

They have demanded compensation of `20 lakh to the family, whose two breadwinners -- Jayaram Kalse and son Tikelal -- died after consuming spurious liquor.

They have also demanded a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to those convalescing at VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla. The Youth Congress has  threatened to intensify stir if the compensation is not paid.

On Thursday, DCC led by its president Ashok Pujari took out a rally and submitted a memorandum over the issue addressed to the Governor through Collector, Gagan Bihari Swain. They have demanded a judicial probe.
