Hooch tragedy: Raids continue on units

BHUBANESWAR: The Excise Department has so far arrested 677 persons during raids on different places in the State to identify manufacturers and distributors of spurious liquor. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday reviewed the measures taken by the Excise and the Health departments and Commissionerate Police after the liquor tragedy in Cuttack and Khurda districts which has claimed 35 lives. The Excise officials conducted raids on 62 places on Friday in connection with manufacture of spurious liquor.

 Raids by the drug inspectors also continued. According to official sources, 30 places were raided by Health Department officials on Saturday. Thirty samples have been sent for examination.

 AP Padhi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department Anu Garg, Police Commissioner Bijay Sharma, Excise Commissioner Saswat Mishra and senior officials attended the meeting.
