Guwahati: After almost two decades the Assam Flying Club is back in business.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has allowed the Assam Flying Club to issue commercial pilot licenses again after 19 years.
Flying instructor Captain Islam at the club is very excited with the news. "The boys are very much interested in flying. There are no money criteria. They want to spend money to start flying," says Captain Islam.
The Assam Flying Club is the only flying-club in the North East. It had lost the authority to issue licenses in 1988 because it didn't have experienced instructors.
The Civil Aviation Ministry is now convinced that the instructors at the club are competent enough to train candidates to become commercial pilots. The ministry is even leasing out another Cessna aircraft to the club.
Club members are once again ready to fly high.
"The aim of the Assam flying club is to give the young ones the opportunity to fly the bigger aircrafts at a higher stage," says Assam flying club secretary Jatin Borchetia.
To herald its comeback, the flying Club will also take part in this year's Independence Day celebrations.
With the granted permission, the flying club's aircrafts, Cessna and the Pushpak will probably find their rightful place in the sky, a place denied to them for so many years.
