Hostile witnesses kill MP Prof case

New Delhi: With one more key witnesses turning hostile in the murder case of MP Professor H S Sabharwal, the family’s fight for justice has got tougher.

Five out of seven witnesses have turned hostile in the case with the latest one being Naval Kishore, a peon at the Madhav College who retracted from his statements on Wednesday.

A day earlier Govind Kushwaha, the librarian of the college refused to stand by his initial statement and denied having any knowledge of the accused. Two other witnesses, Komal Singh Sengar (peon) and Manohar Dodhia (sports teacher) had retracted from their original statements.

The witnesses said on Wednesday that the six ABVP members accused of the murder were not the persons who had attacked Professor Sabharwal on August 26 last year.

Kushwaha, (a librarian) told the court, that Sabharwal had died because the attempts to save him by the doctors proved futile.

The prosecution had based its entire story on circumstantial evidence and the statements of these seven witnesses, with most important one being that of Komal, the college peon who had lodged an FIR against ABVP workers on the fateful day.

Professor Sabharwal’s son Himanshu Sabharwal said the trial is indeed mockery. “Don’t call it a trial. It’s a mockery. The prosecution and prosecuted are hand in glove. The entire investigation is botched up,” Himanshu told CNN-IBN.

“The prosecution even asked me to give proof if I am Professor Sabharwal’s son. It’s a joke going on in the name of trial,” he added.

Professor Sabharwal had died on August 26 last year when ABVP activists allegedly attacked him angered over the cancellation of Madhav college student’s union elections.

The investigating agencies will now have to come up with circumstantial evidences in the case. They might have to trace the telephone records of the ABVP workers in question, said sources.

Himanshu Sabharwal had filed a petition in the Supreme Court asking it to direct CBI investigation in the case, saying that he had “no faith in the state’s investigating agency.”
