New Delhi: Pakistan has abandoned its claim to Jinnah House. In Islamabad, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohd Sadiq said: It is clear that the Jinnah House was the personal property of the Quaid -i-Aam and not of the Pakistan Government. There are no plans to move the international court of justice or litigate in Indian courts.
Lest there should be any misunderstanding, the spokesman also clarified that it was not supporting the claims of the Wadia family to Jinnah House. Industrialist Nusli Wadia had filed an RTI with the Central Information Commission, demanding the Ministry of External Affairs furnish all details relating to Jinnah House.
The Ministry had refused to do so claiming that it would damage relations with Pakistan. But with Pakistan now stating clearly that it has nothing to do with Jinnah House, the ball seems to be in the government's court. The CIC had wanted answers
"We have asked them for the documents, which they are yet to do,” said MM Ansari of the CIC.
The battle is expected to be fought and decided in the courts. The Wadia family is evidently determined to win possession of the property now worth more than Rs 300 crore and has enormous sentimental value.
In that sense the Pakistan government's clarification has come as a major shot in the arm.
