Click to play videoNew Delhi: This is one house where actor Shilpa Shetty got no nasty remarks and not only that, she even met British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Shilpa along with her mother, Sunanda Shetty, paid a visit to the House of Commons in London on Wednesday.
After making an appearance at an international movie premiere on Monday, the Celebrity Big Brother winner, clad in a white sari, made a lasting impression at the House of Commons.
She was invited by Labour MP Keith Vaz, who was among those who criticised the reality show after Shilpa faced racist bullying by her fellow housemates at the Big Brother house.
Vaz had moved the Early Day Motion at the House during the race row, prompting Blair to comment that racism should be opposed in all its forms.
Thanking the British Prime Minister at the House of Commons, Shilpa said, "I thank Mr Blair for his solidarity and his support towards me and my country.”
Shilpa was all smiles when she arrived at the House where she was greeted by a huge media gathering. The scale of media interest in her appearance led to a planned press conference having to be moved from the room initially earmarked for the purpose in Parliament.
She and her mother were given a traditional Indian garland and posed for pictures.
"To see how so much respect has been bestowed upon me has truly been an honour," Shilpa said.
The actress also said she did not believe her fellow contestants were being racist at the Big Brother house, but that their remarks had stemmed from jealousy, or a "lack of education".
Shilpa, who has reportedly taken up the proposal to write an autobiography around the Big Brother tryst, is also scheduled to meet the Queen in the coming week.
