New Delhi: For Bollywood, 2006 began with a bang, Rang De Basanti not only did extremely well in India but also collected over £221,000 which is approximately Rs 1.7 crore, in its opening week in UK.
The picture was even rosier in the US where it collected over $700,000 that is approximately Rs 3 crore.
The dream run at the overseas market continued with Fanaa. This Kajol-Aamir Khan starrer made over £300,000 that’s approximately Rs 2.6 crore in its first weekend in UK.
The US market was no different making about $ 879,000, which is approximately Rs 4 crore in its opening week.
When Krrish decended on the NRIs, the opening weekend saw him fly away with over £210,000 in UK and $35,000 in USA.
But the icing on the overseas collection cake is definitely the much-awaited, the much-hyped and the much-talked about Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna from the stables of director Karan Johar.
On its release, last week this multi-starrer collected £749,000 approximately Rs 6.6 crore at the UK box office making a debut at No. six on the UK Top 10 charts.
It also became UK's highest opening Bollywood film ever.
Kabhi Alvida also conquered USA with ease, earning over $1,350,000, or Rs 6.3 crore in its opening weekend.
Believe it or faint, the money generated by the international release of Karan Johar's latest is crossing the all-India revenues.
