Mumbai: The Ganesh festival is eagerly awaited everywhere and here are some from Bollywood who love celebrating it with great gusto.
The Patekar family's Ganapati is over eighty years old and the family tradition is now carried forward by actor Nana Patekar, for whom the festival has emotional significance as well.
"Obviously it is an emotional bond, my father used to perform the prayer and I have been doing this for the past thirty years. It makes my mother happy," says Nana Patekar.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is also an old hand at Ganapati celebrations as he has been a part of it for the last forty years.
For him, it is a chance to take a break from filming and get together with his family and childhood friends.
The festival may have more commercial colour now but Madhur believes it has a positive side as well.
"It has not changed. In fact now, there is a Ganapati in every second home and people from all religion celebrate the festival," says Bhandarkar.
One of Bollywood's oldest studios, RK studios, has been carrying on the tradition of celebrating the Ganesh festival since it was initiated by Prithviraj Kapoor, more than fifty years ago.
Although most of the Kapoor family was conspicious by its absence, brothers Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor were spotted.
"We all love this festival. My father started this tradition of celebrating it and we hope that the coming generation carry on with this tradition," says Randhir Kapoor.
