Thiruvananthapuram: The long arm of the law finally caught up to rape convict Bitti Mohanty. The son of the former Odisha DG BB Mohanty, Bitti, was arrested in Kannur, Kerala, on Saturday, seven years after he was convicted of raping a German national in Jaipur.
Having jumped parole in 2006, Bitti was found to be working under the assumed name of Raghav Raj at a State Bank of Travancore branch in Madayi.
Had it not been for an anonymous letter sent to the General Manager of the bank, Bitti would have got away with it.
What's not known yet is how Bitti managed to lie low for seven years. What the police say is that he cleared the bank officers' exam in Andhra Pradesh and joined the bank in Kannur in 2012. Currently in custody of the Kerala police, he will produced in court next.
