Mumbai: The idea of celebration for Bollywood’s stars would be skiing in Switzerland, or beach-bumming in Bali. But back home in Mumbai, some stars were busy working to help us ring in 2007.
Stars like Mallika Sherawat, Himesh Reshammiya, Priyanka Chopra, A R Rahman, Shahid Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and Koena Mitra were busy cashing out on New Year's eve.
While Shahid, Priyanka and Koena got to shake a leg with international artist Nelly Furtado, Himesh Reshammiya was serenading people who are fans of the nasal twang.
Bollywood's hottest pin-up girl Mallika Sherawat was suppose to perform alongside 12 Australian dancers at a plush suburban hotel in Mumbai, as the world entered another year.
And most of the performers are not complaining about sacrificing their own fun and games.
"There are going to be thousand and thousand screaming fans. So much energy, so much action. It will be a feast,” says Koena Mitra.
But eventually, it is all for the money. If buzz is to be believed then Mallika apparently has charged Rs 75 lakh for her act. The sound of cash is more of a consideration than the love of their fans.
"It is a combination of everything. You are a performer, but there's only so much that one does for charity,” says actress Neha Dhupia.
Koena adds, “You get paid and you get paid really well. So 31st is a special occasion. The money is big.”
Is there any need to wish these people a prosperous New Year? It’s rather evident.
