Click to play videoDharamshala: In a shocking scam that has come to light in Himachal Pradesh, more than 200 students got first class pass certificates from the state board this year without even stepping foot inside an examination hall.
Ashwini Dogra is the man behind the scam that gave students a first class pass certificate for the board exam, all at a cost of Rs 20,000.
But Dogra's dream run ended when a class 10 student who was sent a certificate by mistake reported the matter to the police.
"We have arrested 48 people and investigations are still on. The whole scam will come to light soon and everything will be clear," said Dharamshala ASP Sanjeev Gandhi.
How the scam worked
The Students passed on their roll numbers to Ashwini Dogra, who acquired the question papers post the exam.
He then asked his coaching center employees to answer them and file the sheets under the roll numbers of students who had paid up.
Dogra's friends in the state's postal department helped him in the act.
They tore open the sealed answer sheet parcels posted to the board office and include the fake answer sheets in them.
When the parcel reached the board for checking there was no whiff of wrong doing. It was a fool proof operation.
The issue has rocked the hill state, whose education parameters are amongst the best in the country. The opposition Congress now demanding a CBI inquiry.
It's still not clear how many students have benefited from this racket over the years but the numbers could run into thousands.
