Chandigarh: An IAS officer was attacked allegedly by the mining mafia in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday morning. SDM Nalagarh Yunus Khan, who has been spearheading a crusade against the sand mafia, told CNN-IBN that the tractor driver tried to run over him.
The driver was arrested by the state police and a case has been registered under section 353 of IPC, which is assault on a public servant.
He said, "We were on a raid yesterday at 4:45 PM, a few tractors hit me, tractor drivers were finally caught and FIR has been registered." The SDM has also confirmed that he got threat calls earlier.
He said "I am protected by the state government" and the government was not putting any pressure on him for taking on the sand mafia.
Yunus is a batchmate of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government.
DGP of Himachal Sanjay Kumar said an FIR has been registerd. He said, "The complaint is that when the SDM had gone for inspection in the morning, a truck overturned near his car and another truck nearby fled. I have ordered SP to inquire in the incident."
The BJP has put the blame of the attack on the Congress government and said the sand mafia is being supported by the state government. BJP leader Anurag Thakur said, "In Una, sand mafia is making millions of money and the government has not taken any steps to stop them. Sand prices have gone up five times due to this."
