New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested four suspected terrorists in Jammu city including commander Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HuJI) even as two Central Reserve Police Force jawans were killed in Sopore.
A team of Jammu police arrested the HuJI commander identified as Zafar alias Sohail Ahmed from Jammu railway station on Sunday night and say he was trained in Pakistan.
Police say he is a resident of Kishtwar and was involved in the killing of five Border Roads Organisation officers two months ago.
He is also suspected to be involved in bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh but have not clarified on which blast.
Officials said that there is possibility that he was in Jammu to disrupt the last phase of elections on December 24.
The three other terrorists arrested up from a hotel in Jammu are Pakistanis.
According to police the arrests have been made on the basis of specific intellgence received from New Delhi.
The two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans from the 179 battalion were killed by terrorists in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.
According to police, two terrorists opened fire with pistols fitted with silencers on the jawans in the Iqbal Market area in Sopore.
They also snatched and ran away with the INSAS rifles the jawans were carrying.
Police have launched a manhunt in the area, but no one has been detained as yet.
Officials believe the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen or Lashkar-e-Toiba may have been involved in the attack.
