But Bilal's long journey to Karachi begins from here, in the narrow, noisy by-lanes of Hyderabad's walled city.
Intelligence agencies say Bilal maintained a large friends' circle often recruiting some as his partners in terror. Three of Bilal's friends - Imran, Sattar, Abdus are suspects in the Mecca Masjid blast earlier this year.
Bilal's early mentors were his cousin Mohammed Abdul Rauf, and Rasool Khan or Rasool `party' who moved to Hyderabad after the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Both Rasool and Rauf were involved in the gruesome murder of Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya. While Rauf was arrested, Rasool disappeared, only to resurface in Pakistan.
By 2003, Bilal was in Pakistan, learning to handle explosives at a Jaish-e-Mohammad camp. He also saw how the Lashkar and the Jaish often worked together.
He then traveled to Bangladesh, where he met HuJI leader Asadullah Munir-ul Islam. Bilal saw that the porous Indian border could be exploited to transfer terror funds, explosives even terrorists, into India.
In 2005, a suicide bomber attacked the STF premises in Hyderabad. One constable was injured. Two persons, Anishul Murshlin and Muttakin, were arrested. Both said that Bilal was now heading HuJI operations in India.
Confirmed by two more Bangladeshi extremists Lutful Rehman and Mohammad Amin Wani, who were arrested by Delhi Police in 2005.
Bilal now has several names to confuse those trailing him. He uses Internet chat rooms to deal with his network. These cyber cafes may well have carried Bilal's deadly instructions before the Hyderabad blasts.
While Bilal is out of reach, this man now in Lucknow jail, Babu Bhai has provided valuable information about HuJI's Indian network.
STF SSP Amitabh Yash said, “Babu Bhai was fairly high up in the chain of terrorist main coordinators of ISI.”
Babu Bhai has admitted to links with HuJI commanders in Pakistan and Bangladesh. He says he took 100 kilos of RDX through the Indo Bangla border over a three-year period.
The RDX Babu Bhai brought over was used in Delhi Diwali blasts two years ago, in Mumbai last year and on the Jammu Tawi express in 2004.
Clearly HuJI Bangladesh now has a lethal terror footprint right across India.
