New Delhi: A bizzare ritual held in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra has shocked many.
One baby at a time was being thrown from the top of a dargah by with the sanction of the parents.
There were no safety harnesses in place save for the bedspread that a few men held stretched a few feet off the ground. The shocking thing is that the police personnel present at the ritual site did nothing to stop the same.
It is reported that the ritual is an annual event which has been held for the last 683 years.
Aleast 400 kids were thrown from the terrace of the masjid this year.
The custom is a mark of reverence to the saint whose tomb is frequented by couples to seek blessings to have a child.
